National Competition for students’ ideas and innovation (IGNITE 2009)

National Competition for students’ ideas and innovation (IGNITE 2009)  In National Competition for students’ ideas and innovation (IGNITE 2009) organized by National Innovation Foundation run by Department of Science and Innovation (Govt. Of India), two students of Police DAV were selected for their innovative ideas. They were awarded certificates and a trophy by     Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam (Ex-President of India) on 30th November 2009 at IIM, Ahmedabad. In total 1344 entries were sent from across India. Out of which 18 were selected and 2 students are from Police DAV. They are the only students selected from Punjab. Anurag, a class IX student got the second prize and Pallavi also a class IX student got the consolation prize. The ideas of Police DAV students were given a wide coverage at the centre page in a national magazine “Honey Bee” published by NIF.

The idea of Anurag that won the second prize is : It wanted to integrate the gait of a person with a mobile. As walking style differs from person to person, the software will be able to identify and store the signals based on the body movements while walking. If the mobile will sense a different movement once activated, it will lock itself and send a message about its location to a predefined number. The system will also have a password option so that in cases of emergency, the original user can unlock it.

The idea of Pallavi that won the consolation prize is: It wanted a high tech school bus which can give alert signal as it approaches the bus stop, thus the student would not miss the bus.
